This study explores the potential applications of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) technology in wooden craft product design. Using the ‘Wings of Pen—Taiwan Barbet Edition,’ designed by the author, as a case study, this research investigates how AIGC technology can facilitate the generation of culturally meaningful, functionally feasible, and market-driven design concepts. A total of 88 participants from diverse backgrounds assessed six AIGC-generated images based on key evaluation criteria, including visual appeal, craftsmanship feasibility, and purchase intention. Results indicate that AIGC enhances the efficiency and creativity of early-stage conceptualization and ideation in design. However, challenges remain regarding style consistency and the effective integration of AI-generated designs into traditional craftsmanship. To address these challenges, the study highlights the necessity of human intervention in curating AI-generated content and proposes a redesigned, flexible selection framework to better integrate AIGC with traditional subtractive craft techniques. Among the tested images, Figure B received the highest ratings across multiple criteria, demonstrating strong market potential. Beyond aesthetic and functional evaluations, this study examines participants’ perspectives on AIGC's originality, ethical considerations, and its role in the creative industry. Findings highlight both the opportunities and challenges of AIGC in design, offering insights for future AI-assisted creativity and product development. This research serves as a reference for bridging the gap between artificial intelligence and traditional craft design.
