Usability Study of Chinese Paper Labels for Defibrillators

This study comprehensively evaluates the effects of information distribution, layout, font and font weight on users’ information search efficiency through refined statistical analysis techniques. Linear regression and multifactor analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used to reveal the significant effect of the independent variable ‘information’ on search efficiency, as well as the statistical significance of the interactions between ‘Layout * Font * Font Weight’ and ‘Information * Layout * Font * Font Weight’ interaction. The advantages of specific combinations (Information 3, Layout 3, SongTi, Bold) in terms of data consistency and search efficiency were confirmed by visual analyses of violin and box-and-line plots. It was found that symbolic information was recognized faster than textual information in emergency situations and that textual information in the middle of a paragraph was more difficult to capture quickly. Therefore, it is recommended to prioritize the display of key information in symbolic form in the design and to place important textual information at the beginning and end of the paragraph. In addition, the bold SongTi may be a better font choice. The results of the study emphasize the central role of information variables in enhancing the efficiency of users’ information search, and provide data support and guiding directions for the optimization of label design. However, there are limitations to the study, including an imbalanced gender ratio, a narrow age range, and the possible influence of practice effects.
