The Health Information Systems (HIS) improve patient care, streamline clinical workflow, and support decision making. Despite the benefits, healthcare practitioners resist using the HIS due to the usability related challenges. The study concentrated on factors to consider when selecting a suitable usability testing method for the health sector. A qualitative and integrative review method was adopted, synthesizing findings from peer reviewed journals, conference papers published over the past twelve years. The study identifies user trials, questionnaires, heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, and think-aloud are the commonly used usability evaluation techniques in the healthcare setting. The findings of the study underscore the importance of considering clinical context, user expertise, the collaborative nature of the health care practitioners, purpose and objective of the usability testing when choosing a technique. Moreover, the study highlights the need to consider Cognitive Load (CL) among the healthcare stakeholders as a critical success factor in implementing a HIS successfully.
