Restoring tissue integrity after injury involves a coordinated action of four overlapping phases: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Disruptions in any of these phases can progress into chronic wounds with delayed healing. Emerging studies highlight the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in fine-tuning cellular responses to various physiological processes, including wound healing. This chapter elucidates each phase of the wound healing process and associated miRNAs implicated in the cellular and molecular signaling events important for wound regeneration. Challenges and opportunities for therapeutic intervention using emerging miRNA delivery platforms are highlighted. Further research is needed to explore the stage-specific roles of miRNA therapeutics to promote regenerative responses, especially for the treatment of chronic wounds.

摘要
