Control System Optimization for Pressure Transferring Hospital Bed

Development of an electropneumatic bed that operates using pressure redistribution as a means of preventing pressure ulcer formation in long-term hospitalized patients. The bed continuously alternates support points between the mattresses and the patient, relieving pressure points and delaying the wound formation process. The system control is managed by a mobile application that determines the optimal working frequency for each patient, based on information input by healthcare professionals. The bed was originally conceived by Dr. Pedro Paulo Silva, a collaborating physician at the eHealth Innovation Center, with a system of raising and lowering two independent sets of mattresses. The original system has been optimized for better adaptation to the hospital environment and patient comfort.
