Challenges in the Implementation of Technologies for the Sustainable Transformation of Chemical Processes into Industrial Practice
摘要
Industrial research, including idea generation, lab experiments, pilot, and demo plant, needs a convincing profitability calculation. This chapter uses two examples to illustrate the specific challenges of technology developments of a disruptive nature. The Rheticus® project is a new approach of industrial artificial photosynthesis. This project can fulfill many customers’ needs, including skin friendliness, biodegradability, viscosity, and application properties. The second example is the MACBETH project, which aims to convert a large-scale carbonylation process from homogeneous catalysis in the liquid phase to heterogeneous catalysis in the gas phase. The specific techno-economic challenges in the development of transformational production processes in the chemical industry are discussed.
