Access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services is paramount for human health; yet progress towards universal access remains inadequate, leaving billions at risk. Water infrastructure systems, intricate and essential, face management complexities exacerbated by territorial spread and operational costs. Failures in these systems pose profound social and legal repercussions, necessitating effective asset management and maintenance strategies. Against this backdrop, this chapter advocates for accelerated efforts to enhance water utility management, emphasising the criticality of safe water supply and wastewater treatment for public health and environmental sustainability. Through an overview of the multifaceted challenges of sustainable water management and the imperative for improved managerial practices, this research underscores the pivotal role of water management in fostering resilience and meeting the needs of present and future generations.
