Parametric Analysis of a Regenerative Hydraulic Suspension System

The automotive industry has been exploring technologies to improve the energy efficiency of vehicles, including the regeneration of energy dissipated in vehicle subsystems. Partial regeneration of energy performed by shock absorbers is among the best evaluated options. Current study investigates how the key parameters of a regenerative system affect the efficiency and performance of a regenerative hydraulic suspension. Using a quarter-car model coupled to a regenerative electro-hydraulic system, numerical simulations were performed in the Matlab/Simulink environment using ISO 8608:2016 standard to simulate the road conditions. The results show that there is a direct relationship between the parameters of the hydraulic system and its regenerative capacity, showing a well stablished compromise among its distinct parts of the system. After current numerical analysis, experimental validation in a road-road implement will be performed.
