Providers of all subspecialties are encountering weight-related pathologies and should be prepared to care for these comorbidities in a non-stigmatizing, inclusive environment. Pursuing a board certification in obesity medicine can prepare providers for the inevitable rise in obesity rates, the presence of obesity-related comorbidities, the advent of novel obesity treatments, and increased patient demand. Even without a dedicated fellowship, physicians can feel empowered to care for these patients. In this chapter, we review the role of obesity medicine and how to incorporate it into your clinical practice.
