Caring for patients with dementia can be both a rewarding and challenging experience for an Internist. We spend a great deal of our education and training on keeping patients alive. Often, we lack adequate exposure or guidance in helping patients and families cope with the aging process. I will share a story about a close patient of mine and different strategies I used in practice that have helped me facilitate caring for those with dementia.
