This chapter introduces the key themes, aims and objectives of the book, and provides an overview of the chapters to follow. It explains our motivations for writing this book, and how we hope it may support other early-career researchers seeking to pursue a transdisciplinary approach. The chapter also introduces the central research project that informed the book, Dingle Peninsula 2030. This unique multi-stakeholder collaboration provided a rich community context for our exploration of a transdisciplinary research approach. It represented a flagship example of how combined insights from social and technical disciplines can support real-world impact.
