The article is devoted to the study of the impact of the Internet of Things technology on the processes of modernization of the agricultural industry. According to the authors, the introduction of this technology in various areas of agriculture will significantly strengthen and expand the capabilities of the agro-industrial complex in predicting the results of the season, thereby minimizing the possibility of the beginning of food shortages within specific agricultural enterprises that use these systems. The high value of the Internet of Things in matters of development and modernization of business processes used in the enterprise has been substantiated. This is due to the main characteristic of any business process—efficiency, which can be significantly increased after analyzing statistical data collected with the help of Internet things, and building on the basis of this analysis the most rational methods of production. Analyzing the Order of the Government of Russian Federation № 3309-r dated November 23, 2023 “On Approval of the Strategic Direction in the Field of Digital Transformation of the Agro-Industrial and Fisheries Industries of Russian Federation for the Period until 2030”, according to which the issue of digitalization of agriculture is a priority aspect for the Russian economy, the authors conclude that despite the fact that this document presents the names of most technologies, including the term Internet of Things, contributing to the digitalization of business processes, it lacks definitions that allow agricultural organizations to understand what are essentially the technologies listed by the legislator. In order to prevent discrepancies and taking into account the duration of the Government Order, as well as the low level of terminological review of this aspect in the existing theoretical knowledge of the mentioned means of digitalization, it is recommended to supplement the Order of the Government of Russian Federation dated November 23, 2023, № 3309-r “On Approval of the Strategic Direction in the field of digital transformation of the agro-industrial and fishery sectors of Russian Federation for the period up to 2030” by introducing detailed definitions of the technologies mentioned therein.
