Environmental Nanotechnological Breakthroughs and Uncovering Challenges: The Progressive Evolution of Biopesticides

Biopesticides consist of naturally occurring ingredients that are used for pest control through non-toxic mechanisms and are biodegradable. Biopesticides include insect pathogenic fungi, nematodes, viruses, bacteria and phytochemicals and are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to chemical pesticides. They are generally less hazardous than chemical pesticides, are targeted and can be used in organic farming. This review covers the role and importance of microbial biopesticides with their advantages and disadvantages. Plant-incorporated biopesticides are used as protectants, and semi chemical biopesticides as insect pheromones, and insect growth regulators. The safety, and challenges of biopesticides on the environment, because these biopesticides residue are usually found in water, soil, and foodstuff having threats to human life. Also, the formation of nanobiopesticides using the new advances in nanotechnology in biopesticides with their regulation and policy issues, and resistance shown by the pest to these biopesticides are thoroughly discussed in this review.
