Microplastics and nano-plastics have been a major source of environmental contamination in recent years, and there is a general worry about the potential toxicity to human health as well as towards the aquatic organisms particularly with regard to the reproductive system. Global worry over microplastics in aquatic habitats is growing. Microplastics can be directly exposed to embryos in aquatic environments or transferred from mothers to offspring. Exposure to microplastics can have a range of negative impacts on an embryo’s development, that including deformities, developmental delays, and even death. Subsequently hormonal abnormalities and developmental issues may result from microplastics’ disruption of the endocrine system’s regular operation. Moreover, oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage are all brought on by microplastics and can affect an embryo’s ability to develop as normally. These can be accessed in human by inhalation, injection, ingestion, and skin contact. Microplastics, however, have been shown to have deleterious effects on embryonic development and to ultimately affect the health of foetus. In this review paper discuss about the adverse risk and its various sources of microplastics towards the aquatic organisms and potential effects on the human health.
