Microplastics: Environmental Risks in Insect Ecosystem Leading to Adversity on Human Health

Plastic became an inevitable thing in our day-to-day life. Even though there are numerous plastics replacing projects were emerged recently we couldn’t make the use of plastic in daily life as zero. The left-over plastic debris, gradually degrade into minute fragments with a diameter of less than 5 mm, known as Micro-plastic Environmental pollution of micro-plastics is known to be anthropogenically mediated menace to biosphere and becoming a serious concern which is debatable globally. Micro-plastics can cause changes in both terrestrial and marine ecosystem. The detrimental effect of micro-plastics on terrestrial ecosystem led to variations in physic – chemical and biological features of soil resulting changes in nutrient cycling and also future climatic snare. Due to ubiquitous nature of micro-plastics, insects will readily interact with micro-plastics via various pathway. The insects can take and transfer micro-plastics along food chains via ingestion and abidance. Also, they are responsible for bio-fragmentation of micro-plastics and the generation of secondary pollutants. Micro-plastics can negatively affect the survival, reproduction, development, and gut microbiota of insects. The amount of oviposition reduced in female flies exposed, suggesting that micro-plastic affected reproduction. Micro-plastics can be ingested by marine organisms, causing physical damage by blocking feeding auxiliary organs and digestive tracts. Furthermore, micro-plastics can also bring toxicological effects, such as oxidative damage, increase of inflammation drop of immunity disorder in intestinal microorganism, hepatic metabolic disorders, decline in growth rate and increase in mortality etc. So, in this paper we deepen the understanding of environmental risks posed by micro-plastics in insect ecosystems which lead to adversity in human health.
