Assessing the Impact of Nickel Contamination in Water on Human Health and the Environment

Nickel is a widely used metal in various industrial processes and consumer items, and its presence in water sources has raised concerns about its potential impact on human health. Nickel has an affinity for certain tissues, and its accumulation in specific organs can lead to toxicity. In animals, the liver and kidneys are major target organs for nickel accumulation. The possible influence of nickel on human health has prompted concerns due to its widespread presence in different industrial processes and consumer items. Nickel can be harmful to the environment due to its toxicity and persistence. It can accumulate in soil and sediment, which can have long-term environmental consequences. In addition, when nickel enters water bodies, it can cause adverse effects on aquatic life. This article explores the inescapable issue of nickel contamination in water sources, investigating its sources, environmental impact, and potential health risks. Through a narrative review of existing literature, the paper synthesizes findings on nickel levels in various water bodies, highlighting the factors influencing its presence and distribution. The findings of this study also shed light on the significance of nickel analysis in terms of its contribution to the resolution of legal disputes associated with medical difficulties.
