Forum as a Transformative Method of Whole Self Education
摘要
In our technological race to ever-greater efficiency and ubiquitous access to information, we have sacrificed our well-being and lost the capacity to be present and connect with others in an authentic way. Today, we lack an intentional commitment to create sacred space in our lives. This chapter highlights the work of Millenium.org through Millennium Forum, an immersive peer-to-peer coaching method that intentionally develops human capacities for well-being while simultaneously addressing the specific life challenges each participant faces at that moment. The chapter presents the Forum Theory of Change model, which uses the practices of awareness, compassion, wisdom, and purpose as vehicles for educator and student well-being, as well as improved adult–student relationships and whole-student education. The chapter then discusses the design elements of the process that lead to deep learning. Based on the four practices, the chapter provides a detailed description of the four-step process for creating virtual sacred space. The second part of the chapter focuses on the challenges of implementation, lessons learned, and measuring the impact. The chapter concludes by arguing the need for Whole Self development in the face of rapid technological change.
