White occurs 42 times in the corpus, i.e. 19% of the total frequency of colour terms, and these are spread over 25 poems, constituting 27% of the total. The figures are thus similar to those for green. There is widespread agreement that white has mainly positive associations, the primary one being with light, brightness and brilliance. A second important link is with purity, innocence and cleanliness. There are, however, also some more negative associations, with cold, loneliness, monotony and ghostly apparitions.
