In the January, 1912, issue of the Journal of the New York Botanical Garden [13(1): 16. 1912], the Murrills’ 1911 Christmas was obliquely noted: “The meeting of the various scientific societies of the country [AAAS] at Washington during Christmas week was notable. A movement to unite all American botanical associations under the Botanical Society of America was auspiciously inaugurated.”
