Bearing in mind Murrill’s repeated visits to Johns Hopkins and Cornell before his enrollment at the latter, it would have been expected that once he was offered the job teaching in New York City, he would pay the “Virginian” principal an introductory visit, but no such report can be found. Murrill’s autobiography would have us assume that the period between his graduation and arrival in New York City was seamless, but a seamless report also cannot be made.
