Women in India have become more politically active, as seen by the remarkable rise in their turnout at the seventeenth general electionGeneral election in 2019. The involvement of women in elections is significantly influenced by social factors. The study analyses the status of women’s engagement in the electoral processes of various social groups in the states and union territories of India and is based on secondary data acquired from the website of the Election Commission of IndiaElection Commission of India. The present study finds, there is a tenuous but encouraging link between women’s literacy and election engagement. There are undoubtedly more socio-political aspects that influence women’s voting behaviour. It’s interesting to note that there is a higher share of women candidates in the election from the ST and SC communities than from other communities not enjoying the benefit of reservation. Women have made tremendous improvements in the voting population, but they are still under-represented in the parliament and assembly and even in the political parties’ share of women representatives. Be it national or state elections, political parties have never made a concerted effort to mobilize female voters. India’s prolonged inability to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill starkly highlights the lack of genuine commitment by political parties to acknowledge and address women’s increasing electoral participationElectoral participation.
