Quantitative Analysis of Land Use and Land Cover Dynamics Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques: A Case Study on Cooch Behar Municipality and Its Surrounding Areas in West Bengal
摘要
Changes in land use are a critical issue. This case study examines LULC dynamics using digital Landsat TM and Landsat OLI data, categorizing the Cooch Behar Municipality into six classes with over 90% classification accuracy for decadal assessments spanning 40 years (1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020). ArcGIS 10.8 software was used for pre-processing the images, followed by supervised classification in Erdas Imagine software using the maximum likelihood algorithm. The study emphasizes the transformation of urban land use at the expense of other land types. Furthermore, the shifting mean centers of LULC classes over time offer valuable insights into the dynamics of LULC over the 40-year period. This analysis is expected to aid land and urban planners, engineers, and administrators in formulating sustainable decisions and policies to promote inclusive urbanization in Cooch Behar Municipality.
