Floods are natural disasters that can result from excessive human intervention on river banks. Almost every year, flooding occurs in the Bhagirathi, Jalangi and Bhairab interfluve region of MurshidabadMurshidabad District. Usually, floods generally occur due to the combined cause of hydrological and meteorological conditions. This area is one of the most flood-prone areas in West Bengal. This block frequently experiences disastrous floods that produce incredible damage in terms of property destruction, loss of life, damage to householdsHousehold, inundation of agricultural land and environment degradation. In that area, flooding happens each and every year on a regular basis from July to September. Different flood causative factors like Land Use Land Cover (LULC), NDVI, NDWI, drainage density, slope, rainfall, elevation are used to delineate flood risk, assessment and monitoring. Landsat 8 OLI Data and SRTM Dem have been used to prepare different parameters that are responsible for floods. After a weighted overlay of different parameters, the entire area was classified into five zones and very highly flood-prone area was 36.66%, high 12.30%, moderately flood-prone area was 12.53%, the marginally low and very low area were 33.21% and 5.30%, respectively. The integration of geospatial techniques improves flood hazard and risk assessment accuracy, providing crucial insights for sustainable development and climate adaptation in flood-prone regions of Kandi block.
