This study examines the impact of “Silver Craft,” an Augmented Reality (AR) game, on enhancing the cultural heritage tourism experience in the Wua-Lai communities, known for their intricate silver craftsmanship. Amidst the evolving post-COVID-19 tourism landscape, we explore the potential of AR to engage tourists by providing immersive experiences that highlight the rich cultural narratives of Wua-Lai. Utilizing the Mechanics-Dynamics-Aesthetics (MDA) framework, the game’s design focuses on user experience, cultural engagement, and educational content. The research adopted a comprehensive Research and Development (R&D) approach, recruiting 40 first-time visitors to Wua-Lai who used the Android version of the game. Participants’ feedback, collected via questionnaires, indicates that while the game was successful in enhancing the overall tourism experience and cultural understanding, there were areas needing improvement, particularly in technical performance. The findings suggest a promising avenue for leveraging AR in cultural tourism, albeit with considerations for broader technological inclusivity and continual user-driven refinements. Future work entails expanding the technological scope, increasing the participant pool, and exploring AR applications in other cultural contexts, aiming to contribute to the sustainable development of heritage tourism.
