In this chapter, I delve into the development of Early Childhood Education for Sustainability (ECEfS) and inspiring practices in Turkiye. Turkiye, a nation that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to promoting sustainability since signing Agenda 2030 in 2015, has seen the government and non-governmental institutions working hand in hand. In a strategic move, the government linked the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the National Development Plans, and the Ministry of National Education (MONE) developed action plans and implemented various projects to equip citizens with the necessary knowledge and skills for sustainable futures. Non-governmental institutions, playing a significant role, have been instrumental in raising awareness and achieving the SDGs. Turkiye’s ECEfS research is also noteworthy, positioning the country as a leader in this field. However, despite the widespread support for ECEfS, preschool teachers still struggle to integrate sustainability issues into their daily practices. Concrete solutions have been proposed to address this, including teacher-training programs offering sustainability-related courses and professional development projects. These initiatives aim to empower preschool teachers and provide them with the necessary tools to integrate sustainability into their teaching. This chapter presents the history of ECEfS policy, research and practices in Turkiye, along with inspiring exemplars from a preschool, non-governmental organisation and professional development project.
