Voice user interfaces (VUIs) have transformed interaction with computer-based technology. In this exploratory, data-driven analysis, our objective is to investigate user experience (UX), usage behavior, motivation, and the context of use. Our participants ( \(N=623\) ) from the UK and USA rated Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant in a mixed-methods study (qualitative and quantitative) using five scales from the User Experience Questionnaire Plus (UEQ+). We also collected free-response comments and analyzed them with ChatGPT. We found that Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant are similar in terms of UX quality, usage behavior, and context of use in both countries, but they differ in their properties and market trends. In both countries, the participants rated all VUIs positively, but they requested improvements for context-aware interaction. All participants used VUIs primarily for convenience, though those in the UK used them more for fun, while those in the USA used them more for specific purposes.
