Women’s reproductive health is a stigma all around the world, especially in conservative societies such as Bangladesh. Women often feel uncomfortable discussing their reproductive health issues, even with other women and physicians. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one such condition affecting women of reproductive age. PCOS is a hormonal disorder that may lead to many issues, including infertility. There is no known cure for this disease; therefore, early diagnosis is crucial for easier management of symptoms. This paper studies the development of Joyee, a chatbot that creates awareness about PCOS among the youth of Bangladesh. Google Dialogflow, an NLP-based platform, was used to develop the chatbot. Information was collected from 20+ reliable websites and verified by a medical doctor. The chatbot was divided into four modules: General, Related, Conversation Helper & Small Talk, and Follow-up. After deploying the chatbot on Telegram, participants were chosen for four phases of surveys using convenience sampling. The first three phases were conducted on 47 women and 15 men and their feedback was used to update the chatbot. The last round of surveys was conducted on 64 women and 46 men to gain feedback on the final version, where 61.11% of men and 79.63% of women stated that the chatbot could answer all of their questions. Four metrics (Performance, Accessibility, Affect, and Humanity) were used to conduct the functionality evaluation of the chatbot. From both the user and functionality evaluations, the chatbot received an average rating of 4.13 out of 5 from men and 4.03 out of 5 from women.
