As the field of user interface/user experience design evolves to include emerging technologies, such as the metaverse and wearable computing products, an urgent need emerges to rethink educational strategies for training future planners and designers in South Korea. This study proposes an interdisciplinary framework that integrates creative and technical skills and focuses on the design of multimodal, immersive experiences for wearable devices such as Apple Vision Pro, Meta VR glasses, and Ray-Ban’s smart glasses. Furthermore, with the advancement of generative AI in content creation, the education system must also incorporate strategies for AI collaboration, including methods beyond text-based prompts, such as quick sketches, to facilitate accurate communication with AI systems. Previously, visual communication primarily facilitated human-to-human interactions; today, however, it must evolve to encompass human-to-machine interactions, as quick sketches help convey ideas effectively to AI systems. The evolution of physical computing from its current forms to smart glass types necessitates changes in educational strategies. This study examines research gaps in Korea’s current educational curricula and proposes strategies for better preparing students for the challenges posed by spatial computing, generative AI, and advanced input systems. The findings are expected to reveal the need for further practical, hands-on experience with immersive tools, collaboration between designs and technical disciplines, and a strong partnership between academic institutions and industry leaders to provide students with access to cutting-edge technology.
