This study explores the design innovation of human-pet symbiotic furniture by leveraging lifestyle theory and the User Successive Design (USD) to optimize existing design processes. Through systematic analysis of the daily behaviors, living patterns, and emotional needs of pet owners and their cats, the study identifies four distinct lifestyle clusters of cat-owning households. Data were collected using a combination of video observations, interviews, and questionnaire surveys to ensure comprehensive coverage of daily routines, space utilization, and furniture preferences. A clustering analysis method was employed to classify the collected data, providing scientific support for the formulation of targeted design strategies. Based on the clustering results, this research proposes modular design solutions that address the diverse needs of different household types, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in pet furniture design. The findings contribute to the development of a systematic design guideline for human-pet symbiotic furniture, balancing both functionality and emotional value. The study not only advances the theoretical foundation of pet furniture design by integrating lifestyle patterns but also provides practical design recommendations that enhance the coexistence experience between humans and pets. Future work will focus on validating these design strategies through prototype development and user feedback, ensuring their feasibility and market applicability. The insights gained from this research offer valuable guidance for designers and manufacturers in creating innovative pet furniture solutions that cater to modern pet-owning households’ evolving needs.
