Bie-modernist (别现代主义Bie Xian Dai Zhu Yi) is a critique of pseudo-modernity and a pursuit of genuine modernity, with an Enlightenment inclination. The Cultural Computing of Bie-modernism is used to distinguish between genuine and fake phenomena. Its main methods are “qualitative computing” and “proportion analysis”. Zhang Yimou's films have flourished in China's film industry for nearly 40 years, and have had a profound impact on the literary and artistic creation in contemporary China. His films are clearly divided into two types - enlightenment and entertainment - in different eras, and are quite controversial. Therefore, using the Cultural Computing of Bie-modernism to study Zhang Yimou's film journey and the evolution of its modernity has important enlightening significance. This study finally draws three conclusions: First, Zhang Yimou's films clearly have two main threads - enlightenment and entertainment, modernity and pre-modernity. Second, Zhang Yimou has gone through a cycle from enlightenment to entertainment, then to praising the tyranny of Qin Shi Huang, and finally back to enlightenment, which shows that his subjective choices have Bie-modernity. Third, the works with the highest proportion of modernity in Zhang Yimou's films come from the concern for the suffering of the poor people in contemporary Chinese society and their right to education. These works with the highest proportion of modernity are also the most touching.

摘要
