The In the era of AI-driven media, boundaries between the virtual and the real have become increasingly blurred, underscoring the significance of “anti-mimetic unnatural narration” in the regeneration and deconstruction of new media space art. Grounded in Brian Richardson’s theory of unnatural narration, this paper explores the fusion of cross-border narratives with traditional Chinese culture, highlighting how unconventional narrative techniques—such as non-human focalization, transcending time and space, and multi-sensory approaches—reveal the regenerative logic of new media art in both form and technology. Through case studies of three Chinese new media artists, this research examines their digital reconfigurations of cultural tradition and identity, illustrating the interplay between East and West, tradition and modernity, as well as nature and the unnatural. Findings indicate that in the digital era, unnatural narration not only carries forward a rich cultural heritage but also provides sustained impetus for innovation in new media art.
