Dancing Math is an aesthetic teaching and learning method enhancing (kin)aesthetic literacy and numeracy development. It follows a three-stage procedure: dance, discuss and formalise. Dance stages the kinaesthetic experience of movement and math; in meta-talks the math content is discussed, clarified and properly named; finally the math content is formalised in equations, formulas and figures. In Dancing Math dance establishes the didactic triangle. Discussing, the young dancers’ previous knowledge and conceptualisations in math are visualised. Kinaesthetic experiencing advocates the encounter of mathematical thinking as perception: to see, hear and feel math, to let corporeal experience precede and cater for cognitive understanding—letting dance teach.

摘要
