A Review of Secure and Ethical Information Management Practices in Modern Healthcare Informatics

The rapid advancement of digital health technologies has revolutionized healthcare delivery but has also introduced significant challenges related to the secure and ethical management of sensitive patient information. This research proposes a comprehensive framework designed to address both security and ethical considerations in modern health informatics. The framework integrates robust security measures, such as encryption, access control, and incident response strategies, with ethical guidelines focused on patient consent, data minimization, and transparency. The framework was tested in two distinct healthcare settings—a large multi-specialty healthcare organization and a medium-sized clinic—to evaluate its adaptability and effectiveness. The findings demonstrate a substantial reduction in security incidents, improved patient trust, and enhanced compliance with data protection regulations. However, challenges related to resource constraints and resistance to change were noted, particularly in smaller settings. This study highlights the importance of combining technical security measures with ethical principles to foster a culture of trust and integrity in healthcare information management. Future research directions include expanding case studies to diverse healthcare environments, integrating emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, and conducting cost-benefit analyses to further validate the framework’s effectiveness.
