This paper describes the experience of designing and implementing a metrics program in an organization that uses the agile Scrum methodology. We used GQM+Strategies to define the metrics program aligned with the organizational objectives and then collected data from 25 sprints (iterations) from one of the organization’s Scrum teams. The metrics were calculated, and statistical analysis was performed. We determined that only one of the processes was statistically stable. Thus, a software process improvement plan was produced to eliminate the assignable causes, and several corrective and preventive actions were suggested to improve the process. Process capacity was evaluated for the lone stable process. This process did not reach the quality target set by Management; hence, it requires improvements to meet the organization’s expectations. Our experience has shown how a software organization can use proven techniques such as GQM+Strategies and statistical process control to improve software quality.
