Several minor alkaloids are present in tobacco together with nicotine. These minor alkaloids usually represent 7 to 11% from the nicotine level and they can be transferred to smoke as well as nicotine is. Analysis of minor alkaloids in tobacco and cigarette smoke is important since some minor alkaloids such as nornicotine can form TSNAs that are carcinogens. Analysis of minor alkaloids in cigarette smoke, in tobacco, and in aerosols of e-cigarettes is discussed in this chapter.
