The organizational structure of the Radio Department in the Ministry of Propaganda is described in detail. A second network was introduced in the evening hours with high-brow programming. However, this was hampered by reception problems, making subsequent adjustments necessary. Listeners’ response played a key role here. There was criticism of “unGerman” swing played by the new “German Dance and Entertainment Orchestra”. A new daily magazine, Zeitspiegel (“Mirror of the Times”) went on air and examples of its contents are given. New shows, including a satirical cabaret, Funkbrettl, were introduced. A new central radio announcement system was adopted. Finally, attention is paid to the problem of addressing the diverse tastes among listeners, based on a) region b) the divide between urban and rural listeners, as well as the problem of local dialects.
