Reduced blinking in environments requiring visual concentration, such as computer work or reading, can lead to dry eye symptoms and ocular infections. Therefore, various methods using external modalities to prevent them have been proposed. Among them, the air puff modality has been reported to effectively induce blinking and cause less distraction. However, there has been no design of systems that provide minimal intervention based on spontaneous blink measurement, nor has there been any quantitative measurement of tear volume or the effectiveness of these systems in improving dry eye symptoms. Therefore, in this study, we designed a new system that integrates blink detection sensors and air puff modality and conducted experiments comparing blink frequency and tear volume before and after video viewing sessions under two conditions: with and without the air puff modality. The results showed that using the air puff modality increased blink frequency and significantly improved tear volume retention. These findings quantitatively demonstrate that the reflexive blinking induction device utilizing the air puff modality effectively suppresses eye dryness, providing new evidence for improving dry eye symptoms.

摘要
