For carbon storage reservoir, it is important to quantify the uncertainty on containment of the trap. An efficient method is to simulate dynamically carbon dioxide injection for an ensemble of geostatistical realizations. In this paper, we present a real field case study using this method. The impact of different sources of uncertainty on containment success rate is evaluated. An alternative method with subset selection of realizations using a connectivity proxy is also suggested. Some conclusions are drawn about probability of success of this kind of project and the pertinence of using connectivity computations to accelerate the procedure.

摘要

For carbon storage reservoir, it is important to quantify the uncertainty on containment of the trap. An efficient method is to simulate dynamically carbon dioxide injection for an ensemble of geostatistical realizations. In this paper, we present a real field case study using this method. The impact of different sources of uncertainty on containment success rate is evaluated. An alternative method with subset selection of realizations using a connectivity proxy is also suggested. Some conclusions are drawn about probability of success of this kind of project and the pertinence of using connectivity computations to accelerate the procedure.
