Clean water is a valuable but finite resource that is sometimes wasted owing to leaks in distribution pipelines, particularly in large cities. Detecting these breaches presents a big challenge for water authorities globally. Leaks can occur due to ageing infrastructure. This project offers a smart water flow and pipeline leak detection system that uses IoT technology to provide real-time monitoring and alerts. Current water flow and pipeline leak detection methods vary greatly in the complexity and capability. Sensors are used to detect water leaks and interfaces to provide real-time notifications. While it works well for basic leak detection, it lacks advanced IoT functions like flow analysis and remote monitoring. Similarly, the GROVE Water Flow Sensor System, which is commonly used with Arduino boards, monitors flow rates and sends alerts when predefined thresholds are surpassed. The proposed system offers an advanced IoT-based solution for real-time pipeline monitoring and leak detection. A water flow sensor continuously monitors the flow rate, detecting significant drops that could indicate a leak. A strategically placed moisture sensor detects the moisture accumulation, accurately predicting pipe damage. When an issue is identified, a GSM module sends an instant SMS alert to notify. The system also offers real-time visual feedback with messages like “Leakage Detected” or “Pipe Damage Detected,” enabling swift diagnostics. Sensor data, including flow rates and moisture levels, is uploaded to the ThingSpeak IoT platform, enabling the remote monitoring and analysis. This strategy lowers the possibility of the water damage and boosts system efficiency.
