Urbanization and rising temperatures have increased a community’s susceptibility to human and climate induced catastrophes and disasters, especially meant for people living in urban villages of a developing countries. Disasters, even if they are minor disrupt the development of these communities financially and psychologically. Community resilience assessment frameworks (CRAFs) have been developed in the twenty-first century to address this concern. This paper argues for a strong and flexible framework on resilience that will facilitate effective resilience assessment for stakeholders such as residents, officials, practitioners, and researchers. The study has used systematic reviews to explore different successful frameworks, toolkits and models which have been found useful in assessing resilience within local communities. Definitions, domains, methodologies and indicators are used by authors to classify and evaluate existing models of resilience thus paving way for future community resilience framework development. Surprisingly many frameworks do not sufficiently take into account environmental concerns; lack comparative analysis; and also miss out on providing researchers with a comprehensive set of criteria. Moreover some current approaches fail to acknowledge that resilience is a dynamic process or recognize its interrelated scales. The study aims to develop a flexible and customizable collection of indicators for community resilience by combining indicators from widely cited frameworks.
