Implementing Sustainable Urban Mobility in Mumbai: Policy Frameworks and Practical Application
摘要
Urban areas worldwide are rapidly expanding, emphasizing the imperative of prioritizing sustainable transportation to ensure seamless mobility, decrease car dependency, safeguard urban functionality, and mitigate environmental impact. This research delves into perceptions of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and their policies, focusing on present and future mobility needs and regulations governing transportation infrastructure. Key findings underscore the efficacy of SUMPs in reducing reliance on cars, enhancing public transit, and advancing urban mobility. The study underscores the importance of holistic urban mobility strategies that integrate sustainable practices and ensure fair access to transportation resources. As urbanization accelerates, cities grapple with maintaining functional, accessible, and safe transportation networks, complicated by disparities in resources and infrastructure fragmentation. This paper explores SUMPs as pivotal frameworks for tackling modern urban mobility challenges, evaluating innovative approaches to regulating transportation demand to bolster urban sustainability and livability. Methodologically, the study employs literature reviews, policy analyses, city case studies, and effectiveness assessments of SUMPs, utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods to gauge their impact. Well-implemented SUMPs demonstrably reduce car usage, enhance public transport, and improve overall urban mobility, proving cost-effective in bridging transportation gaps across diverse urban populations. The discussion underscores the intrinsic connection between transportation policy, quality of life, and urban sustainability, advocating for integrated mobility strategies that prioritize sustainability, equity, and accessibility in urban transport networks. Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans are pivotal for establishing efficient, cost-effective, and equitable transport systems essential for cultivating livable, sustainable cities, necessitating urgent implementation amidst rapid urban growth.
