This study analyzes the alignment and discrepancies between HCI skills demanded in job advertisements and those cataloged in the European Skills, Competences, Qualifications, and Occupations (ESCO) database. We identified and compared HCI-related skills across the two datasets using text mining techniques, including keyword extraction and natural language processing (NLP). While areas of alignment were observed, particularly in foundational skills, notable gaps were found in addressing rapidly emerging skills and evolving technologies that are not yet reflected in ESCO. Our findings reveal a nuanced landscape of both alignment and misalignment between academic frameworks and industry expectations. We propose critical evaluations and refinements to ESCO classifications to more effectively capture the dynamic, rapidly evolving nature of HCI roles and the shifting demands of the industry.
