Pervious concrete is an emerging material primarily used in waterlogged areas, in walkways and car parks due to its unique property such as efficient runoff drainage and ground water recharge. The main constituents of conventional pervious concrete are water, cement, coarse aggregates and small amount or no fine aggregates. This study aims to develop a pervious mortar by excluding coarse aggregates and using a gap-graded fine aggregate approach. The fine aggregate gradation for the study includes sizes of 4.75 mm, 2.36 mm, 1.18 mm and 600micron. The research explores the preparation of pervious mortar by excluding one specific gradation at a time. For example, a gradation with fine aggregates of 2.36 mm, 1.18 mm, and 600 microns was prepared by omitting the 4.75 mm grade. The aim of excluding different gradations is to develop meso- and macro-pores in the mortar, which could be used to create paving flags for walkways and parking areas. The study evaluates the mechanical, permeable and functional properties of different grades of pervious mortar. The optimum aggregate gradation of pervious mortar is determined based on the strength and porosity properties with the aid of statistical analysis. The result shows that the sample excluding the 2.36 mm gradation exhibits better strength and infiltration properties.
