Installing Safety Nets: Contemplating Our Fieldwork Guide
摘要
In this, the penultimate chapter of the book, we further unpack the mechanisms by which an individual might cope with the stressors inherent to working within the field of intensive care. The chapter again places the intensive care doctor at the centre of the intensive care environment and then summarises how readers might consider and install bespoke metaphorical ‘safety nets’ for themselves. This will involve understanding the importance of physiology, past experiences, social and cultural issues and existential questions. Coping strategies such as cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and sense making are then described.
