Information related to fiery phenomenaCrimean Earthquakes during the Yalta earthquakes of 1927 are described in detail. On the afternoon of June 26, 1927, an earthquake occurred on the southern coast of Crimea. Within 11 h, there were 27 strong aftershocks. In just a few days, more than 200 aftershocksearthquakeaftershockswere recorded. Huge columns of smoke and fire appeared on the sea near Sevastopol. The most powerful tremors led to the destruction of buildings on the coastal strip of land from Alushta to Sevastopol. The earthquake of 11 September, 1927 was accompanied by many side effects—sea quakesearthquakesea quakes, tsunami wavesearthquaketsunami waves, underwater landslides, and the development of fire phenomena. The latter are of the greatest interest here, since they point to zones of high methane concentration in the sedimentary sequence and the paths of methane movement. In total, 16 fire phenomena of a large scale were observed to the west of Crimea. Considering eyewitness accounts of fiery phenomena that occurred on September 12, 1927, their spatial and temporal orientation show that the main bands of fire over the water spread in two directions. First, the Sevastopol-Evpatoria zone was elongated sub-meridionally and inherited the Nikolaevsky fault. The second one spread in the northeastern direction, associated with tectonic faults within the Circum-Black Sea fault zoneCircum-Black Sea fault zone.
