Innovative Synergies Between Imaging Techniques and Numerical Simulations for Enhanced Non-Destructive Evaluation in Civil Engineering

In this study, the practices of utilizing various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods in projects related to civil engineering are reviewed. A summary of frequent applications is provided entailing NDT case studies about the evaluation of the integrity of structures, cracking and damage uncovering, and continuous observing of the infrastructural facilities. In addition, the paper also investigates the potential forthcoming utilization of mixed NDT methods in the civil engineering profession. Merging of more than one NDT technique leads to improved precision and competence evaluations. This integration provides better opportunity for the evaluators in their assessment in terms of revealing the actual conditions and uncovering any masked problem in the materials and structural elements. Also, the integration of imaging methods with imitation and modeling techniques such as finite element analysis (FEA) results in more efficacious collaborations in NDT applications. The pros and cons paper of the proposed integration of the various NDT methods are highlighted in this study, considering amended imperfection discovery, minimized time and effort, and greater accuracy. The main message of this paper is the elevation of awareness of the practitioners and engineers about the huge potential and benefits that might be obtained from the assimilation of imaging and simulation methods in the field of NDT evaluations of the infrastructural facilities. Various prosperous actual cases in which mixed NDT methods were implemented were illuminated in this paper, aiming to motivate additional examinations and evaluations.
