Guideline Proposal for Designing Immersive Audiovisual Content Applied to Senior Virtual Cycling Tourism Experiences
摘要
The recent advancement of immersive technologies has facilitated substantial growth in their application. However, the development of immersive content tailored to senior citizens remains in need of further research, particularly regarding experiences that involve physical activity, such as cycling. This paper explores the potential of using immersive audiovisual content for senior cycle tourism, focusing on promoting healthy ageing. It reports on the findings of a Development Research study conducted in three phases: a problem analysis and solution design through a literature review and expert interviews; the production of a 360-degree video for senior virtual cycling tourism; and the application and evaluation of the content in an experience involving 22 participants aged 60 years old and over, who exercised on a stationary bicycle while watching the video using both a conventional flat-panel display and a virtual reality head-mounted display (VR HMD). Data were collected through a questionnaire adapted from the Senior Technology Acceptance Model (STAM), interviews, and researcher’s field notes. The results suggest that immersive audiovisual cycle tourism content tailored to senior citizens has the potential to enhance their commitment to regular physical activity and leisure practice. In this context, a 360-degree video has been demonstrated to be a feasible and effective strategy for engaging senior citizens in a virtual cycling tourism activity, whether on a flat-panel display or a VR HMD, with the VR performing better in immersion, enjoyment, and satisfaction. To conclude, a set of 14 guidelines for producing 360-degree videos for senior virtual cycling tourism is presented.
