As the elderly age, the deterioration of their physical functions makes them dependent on supportive objects for a longer period of time. Meanwhile, due to the lack of communication and solitude, mental health problems such as loneliness come to the forefront, and studies have shown that contact with nature has a natural healing effect. However, the supportive objects currently available to the elderly make it difficult to personalise support and emotional connection to the elderly’s physical condition. Horticultural activities have been shown to form a physical and spiritual connection with the elderly, thus alleviating their sense of isolation. Thus, this study designed a smart resting appliance can provide personalised support to the elderly while generating spiritual companionship, and give the elderly a warm feeling by constructing a form of interaction such as heat production from plants, and optimising the user experience by using artificial intelligence and other technologies. This study improves the comfort of physical support for the elderly, enhances the emotional interaction with plants, and effectively alleviates the feeling of loneliness.
