In physical terms ceding space can refer to the act of yielding physical room for others to use. In academia, we speak about physically, intellectually, and spiritually ceding the space—an act of stepping back so that Indigenous Peoples can step into the roles and spaces. We speak to the perils of allyship and discuss how we foster true collaboration, empathy, and inclusivity for Indigenous Peoples.
