Supraumbilical bulges, epigastric hernias, and rectus diastasis are some of the most common abdominal wall findings noted on physical exam. Evaluation of these abnormalities is often guided by patient symptoms and can be done in a relatively cost-effective manner. In particular for patients being referred for surgical consultation, basic diagnostic testing can help facilitate a more efficient workup. This chapter discusses workup, common clinical scenarios, and adjuncts to surgical evaluation for patients with upper abdominal bulges.
